Efficient at the pump and the bank: Mitsubishi Mirage is the most fuel efficient, gasoline-powered vehicle in America

CYPRESS, Calif. – Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA), the fastest-growing Asian car brand in the U.S. for the second consecutive year1, today announced that the gasoline-powered Mitsubishi Mirage is proving it can hold its own when it comes to efficiency, proudly holding the title of the most fuel efficient, gasoline-powered vehicle in America2. At a stout 36/43 miles per gallon (MPG) city/highway rating by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Mitsubishi Mirage leads the pack.

With an affordable starting price point of $13,795, the Mirage is an even more cost-effective option for smart consumers. According to EPA, the three-cylinder Mitsubishi Mirage will cost an owner just $900 annually to run (based on 45 percent highway, 55 percent city driving, 15,000 annual miles and current fuel prices) at current fuel costs. That's nearly $2,000 less to keep the tank filled over a five-year ownership period, compared to the average new car3.

This frugality doesn't mean an owner has to go without the niceties buyers expect today: inside, the Mitsubishi Mirage features a 7.0-inch touchscreen display audio unit with Bluetooth® phone and audio streaming, rearview camera and steering wheel audio controls for increased functionality. A center console USB port and available Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ keeps the Mirage connected and user-friendly.

Complementing the Mirage hatchback, the Mirage G4 sedan ranks as the most fuel efficient in its class of compact cars as defined by the EPA4, with a highway fuel economy of 41 MPG. The popular sedan, starting at just $14,395, utilizes the same powertrain as the hatchback version, a 1.2-liter three-cylinder. Designed with occupants in mind, the Mirage G4 offers the most rear- and total-legroom in its class, delivering both a spacious interior cabin and trunk.

"Mitsubishi proves efficiency comes in all shapes and sizes, from the affordable Mirage up to the World's Best-Selling Plug-In Hybrid SUV5, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV," said Mark Chaffin, chief operating officer, MMNA. "Efficiency is at the heart of our engineering philosophy, whether it's building vehicles that offer industry-leading fuel efficiency, our rally-proven Super All-Wheel Control AWD system or our exclusive plug-in hybrid technology that allows three different charge modes. We make affordable vehicles available for all consumers looking to reduce their annual transportation costs, while at the same time reducing their carbon footprint. Everything we engineer, build and sell is a testament to that effort."

Both the Mirage and Mirage G4 are supported by Mitsubishi's phenomenal warranties, proof of their quality: fully transferable 5-year/60,000 mile new vehicle limited warranty; 10-year/100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty; 7-year/100,000 mile anti-corrosion perforation limited warranty and a 5-year/unlimited roadside assistance.
