Mitsubishi Motors auction of one-of-a-Kind 2012 Eclipse nets $35,000 for Japan red cross
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) saw a very special one-off final rendition of the 2012 Eclipse Coupe SE sell for top dollar at famed auctioneer Mecum Auctions’ annual event in St. Charles, Illinois – with 100% of the proceeds donated to the Japan Red Cross earthquake and tsunami relief fund.
When the auctioneer’s gavel finally fell to conclude the frenzied bidding of Lot S100 on the afternoon of Saturday, September 17, the winning suitor of the utterly unique, one-of-a-kind 2012 Eclipse Coupe SE posted a generous bid of $35,000 – and became the sole owner of a highly-collectible vehicle that is as handsome as it is fun-to-drive.
“I would like to thank the people in America for all of their support for the relief effort towards the earthquake and tsunami victims” said Yoichi Yokozawa, President and CEO of MMNA. “I would also like to thank all of the ardent Mitsubishi Eclipse fans and owners across the United States for making our sports car such a popular vehicle choice throughout the years. Mitsubishi Motors will continue to produce inspiring and affordable cars for the U.S. market with stylish appeal.”
The dynamic Mitsubishi Eclipse – available in either coupe or stylish Spyder soft-top convertible – has been the best-selling Japanese sports car in America for the last 20 years with total sales of nearly 1 million units since its debut in 1989. Outside of North America, including such diverse markets as China and the Middle East, this stylish and sporty two-door has been a tremendous sales success for the Japanese auto manufacturer the world over.
From the first-generation car - with its potent turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and road-grabbing all-wheel drive – right up through the latest fourth-generation model and its powerful V-6 powerplant and long list of standard features, Mitsubishi Eclipse owners display a passion for their vehicles that have helped make this coupe/spyder an attainable exotic car for the ages.
