Next generation 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander brings premium sport utility vehicle technology to compact SUV segment

The all-new, next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander for 2007 complements its premium-platform dynamics with a level of user technology more typically seen on luxury sport-utility vehicles, including several firsts for the compact SUV segment.

On Outlander XLS models, the FAST-Key entry system allows vehicle unlocking simply by carrying the remote control. An available hands-free Bluetooth(R) cellular phone interface system with voice recognition allows hands-free calling from compatible phones, which can help to reduce driver distraction.

"The user technology that Mitsubishi will offer in the 2007 Outlander has been designed to make driving or riding in the vehicle more enjoyable for all occupants," said Dan Sims, general manager, Mitsubishi R&D America, Design Center. "Customers will find Outlander's high-tech features easy to operate and as familiar as technology used in the home or office."

All Outlander models for 2007 will come pre-wired for an available SIRIUS(TM) Satellite Radio package, which is included with the available Rockford-Fosgate(R) audio system with PUNCH(R) control and a total 650 watts (max.) output. The available rear-seat DVD entertainment system allows game console hookup and features a set of wireless headphones so front and rear occupants can enjoy different programs.

Satellite Navigation System - With a Difference

A satellite navigation system is available for all 2007 Outlander models and also includes AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA music file playback, DVD video capability (when also equipped with rear-seat DVD entertainment system) and SIRIUS Satellite Radio capability. Navigation maps and directions are displayed on a crisp 7-in. LCD screen.

The navigation system uses an on-board 30-gigabyte hard drive to store map data, reserving about a third of that capacity for music file storage and playback through the audio system (approx. 2,500 songs encoded in a format compatible with most popular digital music players). Using a hard drive for map storage - rather than DVDs, as many other navigation systems use - gives the Outlander navigation system ultra-fast search and access to the map data. In addition, the 2007 Outlander's navigation system also provides displays for outside temperature, a trip computer with fuel mileage information and an interface that allows owners to customize many of the vehicle's interior functions.

Outlander, the Entertainer

The 2007 Outlander comes equipped to provide high-quality sound, with a standard total 140-watt AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with six speakers. The Outlander XLS models add a 6-disc in-dash CD changer. Mitsubishi first offered the Rockford-Fosgate(R) audio system with PUNCH(R) control on the 2006 Eclipse, and this audiophile-quality system will also be offered on the 2007 Outlander, custom-tuned for the new SUV's interior acoustics.

The Rockford-Fosgate system uses an 8-channel amplifier to produce up to 650 watts maximum output and plays through nine speakers in seven positions, including a 10-in. subwoofer in its own fiberglass-reinforced sealed enclosure. The subwoofer is located in the left rear of the cargo compartment, the optimal location for this type of speaker.

The subwoofer provides extremely high-power bass performance, but that doesn't make the Rockford-Fosgate audio system a one-trick pony. The system will please the ears of any discerning music listener, because it is designed to provide crystal clear, low-distortion fidelity to make any type of music come alive in the vehicle.

The speakers include dual soft-dome tweeters to project a realistic soundstage; 6.5-in. mid-woofer speakers in the front door panels, and 6.5-in. two-way coaxial 2-way speakers in the rear door panels. Using special materials and construction, Mitsubishi engineers worked with Rockford-Fosgate engineers to tune the Outlander's doors to function as speaker cabinets, extending response, increasing clarity and reducing any unwanted coloration.

Digital signal processing allows the listener to customize the Rockford-Fosgate system's performance for five types of music - normal, pop, rock, and hip-hop and country - and four sound fields - "normal," "stage," "live" and "hall." The system automatically compensates volume for vehicle speed as well as road and wind noise. The Rockford-Fosgate audio package includes SIRIUS Satellite Radio with a six-month free subscription.

Rear Seat DVD Entertainment

A rear-seat DVD entertainment system is available for all 2007 Outlander models. The system features a flip-down 9-inch wide-screen LCD and includes a remote control and one set of infrared wireless headphones. With this setup, front and rear occupants can enjoy different entertainment programs. The rear center console includes a 115-volt power outlet.

FAST-Key Entry

Outlander LS models feature a standard remote keyless entry system, and all models include a standard anti-theft engine immobilizer and security alarm system. Outlander XLS models add a feature more commonly seen on luxury brand vehicles: the FAST-Key system that allows the driver to unlock the vehicle simply by having the remote in a pocket and grabbing the handle on either of the front doors or the tailgate.

The FAST-Key system provides both convenience and security, since the driver does not need to search for a key or remote control while carrying packages, or when in a poorly lit area, for example. The system operates when the driver (carrying the remote unit) is within 27 inches of the front doors or the tailgate.

With FAST-Key, the driver starts the engine simply by twisting the integrated ignition knob located on the steering column. The system comes with two remote units, and up to four can be registered and programmed for the system. The remote houses an emergency key that can unlock and start the vehicle if the unit's battery runs down.

Premium Warranty

Mitsubishi cars and light trucks are backed by a comprehensive new-vehicle limited warranty that covers the vehicle from bumper to bumper for five years/60,000 miles. In addition, the powertrain is covered by a 10-year/100,000 mile limited warranty, while body panels have a seven-year/100,000 mile anti-corrosion/perforation limited warranty.

The program also includes 24-hour emergency roadside assistance with free towing to the nearest authorized Mitsubishi retailer for warranty-related repairs for five years/unlimited miles.
