The 2025 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid also features Mitsubishi's "Innovative Pedal" technology⁵, which allows near-one-pedal acceleration and deceleration, similar to full-battery electric vehicles. Unlike other applications, however, Mitsubishi engineers wanted to keep a similar feel to conventional gasoline vehicles' low-speed operation. Lifting off the brake pedal allows the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid to "creep" forward for parking and other maneuvers, as is common in any automatic transmission-equipped vehicle. In many applications of one-pedal operation, low-speed maneuvering can be a challenge and have Its own learning curve for smooth driving.

Inside, Outlander Plug-in Hybrid places a premium on comfort and convenience with class-above materials across the range. ES and SE models offer standard-equipment fabric seating, while SEL models upgrade the experience to include diamond-quilt-stitched semi-aniline leather. Outlander Plug-in Hybrid features a Platinum Edition trim that can be added to SEL models for drivers to further personalize their electrified Outlander. To take things a step further, the Platinum trim adds a Black Diamond paint scheme to the exterior in combination with an Alloy Silver roof. Inside, light gray leather adorns the Platinum's cabin for a bright, upscale look and feel to match the exterior.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Third-Row Seat

While both the ICE and Plug-in Hybrid models of the Outlander are equipped with a third-row seat as standard equipment, the design and operation of the seats themselves differs. The rear-most seat is a 50/50 split in the ICE model, however the Plug-in Hybrid debuted a new design that folds the one-piece seatback forwards onto the cushion, then the whole assembly tumbles backwards into a deep well in the floor. All operation is light and simple and can be performed with only one hand.

Mitsubishi engineers and designers were able to develop the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid from the outset to be a three-row vehicle -- unlike Its predecessor - which is what allowed the vehicle to be one of the only mass-market plug-in hybrid SUVs to offer seating for seven passengers. Mitsubishi dubs this third row as an "occasional" seat, perfect for short trips, and the presence of a third row Is noted as a solid "why-buy" for many Outlander Plug-In Hybrid buyers.

The 2025 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid rides on a cutting-edge platform developed through Mitsubishi Motors' partnership with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. While the underlying architecture was the result of this joint collaboration, all Outlander models were designed at Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's global design center In Japan, and all models are built at the company's production facility In Okazaki, Japan.

The modern vehicle architecture offers a solid foundation to provide a confident and comfortable driving experience. With hot-stamped, ultra-high tensile-strength steel used in key areas, torsional rigidity is increased by 33% over the previous-generation Outlander. A stiffer structure results in a vehicle that can allow Its suspension to operate as designed, absorbing road shocks and minimizing noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), without transferring Impacts and shocks to occupants.

All models are equipped as standard with the newest generation of the brand's signature Super All-wheel Control (S-AWC)³ all-wheel drive system, allowing for greater vehicle control and increased driver confidence. The twin-motor system, utilizing the gasoline engine and front motor to drive the front wheels, and a stand-alone rear-mounted motor to drive the rear axle, boasts a combined 248-horsepower and 332 lb./ft of torque and achieves a 64 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent) rating⁴. Part of the magic of the S-AWC system is that the rear electric motor is larger than the front, allowing for a confident feel for the driver.
