Statement on MMC Recalls of June 2, 2004

• The recalls announced in Japan on June 18 (Japan time) are part of the original Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announcement of June 2. They are not new recalls. Further, none of the 26 recalls impact North America. (Note: The Lancer and Galant nameplates are used in Japan but the U.S. versions are not impacted.) We have an excellent track record working with NHTSA in the U.S.

• MMNA is here to stay. We have the right plan in place in North America with definitive action steps we're implementing. We're moving forward and will continue to refine our strategies to assure success both short and long-term. We're celebrating our 4 millionth car sale this summer - and plan to be here for 4 million more.
