2007 Mitsubishi Motors model overview
Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) proudly unveiled the 2008 Lancer compact sport sedan at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This striking vehicle delivers driven-to-thrill dynamics, "class-up" value, advanced safety and available cutting-edge user-technology in an aggressively styled package. The new-generation Lancer models arrive in Mitsubishi dealerships in early 2007.
Adding to this year's line-up, the larger 2007 Outlander, in Mitsubishi dealerships now, offers a compelling blend of driven-to-thrill dynamics, bold styling, five- or seven-passenger versatility, plus numerous user-technology firsts for the compact SUV segment. Furthermore, the mid-size Galant Ralliart is a bold challenger to the sport sedan establishment and features freshened styling and refined driving dynamics for 2007. Both the Galant and the Endeavor sport-utility vehicle bolster their segment-leading safety performance with new standard safety technology.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary year in the United States, Mitsubishi is focused on offering vehicles that deliver the essence of the brand with standout design, performance that's well-rounded but with a definite edge, advanced yet usable technology and proven quality. In addition, Mitsubishi continues to back its vehicles with one of the best warranties in the industry
2008 Lancer: The No Compromise Compact
The 2008 Lancer brings the bold, dynamic lines of the show-stopping Mitsubishi Concept-X to the showroom. First shown in 2005, the stunning Concept X previewed not only the next generation Mitsubishi compact sport sedan, but also a new design language to convey an unmistakable brand identity. A "shark-nosed" front end inspired by jet fighter air intakes, a distinct wedge-like profile and crisp, taut lines highlight the Lancer's exciting new design.
The 2008 Lancer is based on a new performance-engineered global platform that also forms the foundation of the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander SUV and will underpin the next-generation high-performance Lancer Evolution model. Lancer's comprehensive safety package provides seven standard air bags, including the first driver's knee air bag in a Mitsubishi model.
The new-generation Lancer's standard new 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC 4-cylinder engine is among the most powerful standard engines in its segment, with 152 hp at 6,000 rpm (Federal Tier II, Bin 5 emissions) and 146 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,250 rpm. (For California, Lancer is PZEV-certified and offers 143 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 143 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,250 rpm.)
The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer is available in three levels of trim and driving dynamics: DE, ES and the sport-tuned GTS. The Lancer ES model projects a refined appearance with 5-spoke 16-in. alloy wheels, color-keyed door handles and mirrors and a chrome grille surround. The GTS's styling is even more aggressive than on other Lancer models, with 10-spoke 18-in. alloy wheels, front and side air dams, standard fog lights, a rear spoiler and a chrome tailpipe tip.
First Mitsubishi in North America with a CVT
All Lancer models come with a standard crisp-shifting 5-speed manual transmission. The new-generation Lancer is the first Mitsubishi in North America to offer an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) in place of a conventional automatic transmission. When equipped with the CVT, the Lancer GTS exclusively features a 6-step Sportronic(R) mode that allows the driver to manually control transmission operation using magnesium steering wheel paddle shifters - a first in the segment.
In contrast to a conventional automatic transmission, which uses fixed gear ratios, a CVT operates on a pulley system that allows an infinite variability between highest and lowest available ratios with no discrete steps or shifts. A CVT smoothly adapts to changing vehicle speeds, allowing the engine to operate at its level of peak efficiency.
2007 Outlander: More Sport, More Utility
The all-new 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander models are powered exclusively by a new 3.0-liter 220-hp aluminum MIVEC V-6 engine teamed to a six-speed Sportronic(R) automatic transmission (with magnesium steering wheel paddle shifters in XLS models). The Outlander will be the first PZEV-certified V-6 SUV offered in the U.S.
The 2007 Outlander is based on a new performance-engineered global platform that will also form the foundation of the next-generation Mitsubishi Lancer and Lancer Evolution models.
The Outlander also previews new design language for Mitsubishi and strongly hints at the performance potential of this new platform.
Each of the three trim lines offered for the 2007 Outlander - the value-minded ES, the well equipped LS and the sport/luxury XLS - come standard with front-wheel drive and Active Skid and Traction Control (ASTC). The LS and XLS models are available with an optional electronically controlled 4-wheel drive system - All-Wheel Control (AWC). Mitsubishi's All-Wheel Control philosophy for Outlander combines sophisticated electronically controlled 4-wheel drive with ASTC and a tuned 4-wheel independent suspension, plus an aluminum roof that lowers the center of gravity for better handling response. On Outlander XLS models, standard 18-in. aluminum-alloy wheels further underscore this model's fun-to-drive credentials.
Outlander's sporty interior features deeply contoured front bucket seats and a unique odor-defeating head liner. The versatile second row seat combines independently reclining 60/40 split fold-and-tumble seat backs and 60/40 seat cushions that offer a 3.15-in. slide range.
Overall cargo volume behind the front seats measures 72.6 cu in. On XLS models, the standard underfloor-stowable compact third row seat folds flat into the floor when not needed. When lowered, the flap-fold tailgate can also serve as a seat for outdoor activities, with a capacity of 440 lbs. ft.
Standard safety features for all Outlander models include an advanced dual front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) with occupant sensors, standard front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and side curtain air bags (front and second row), plus energy-absorbing head protection interior pillars, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and a tire pressure monitoring system.
Outlander offers user technology formerly seen only in luxury-brand SUVs. The standard FAST (Freehand Advanced Security Transmitter) Key entry system on Outlander XLS allows passive vehicle unlocking and engine start/stop by carrying the remote control.
High-tech options for Outlander include a hard disc drive (HDD) 30-gigabyte navigation system with music server; a 650-watt Rockford-Fosgate(R) Premium Audio system with digital signal processing; SIRIUS(R) Satellite Radio with six month pre-paid subscription; hands-free calling through Bluetooth(R) wireless technology, and a DVD rear seat entertainment system with a nine-inch wide-format LCD screen.
Eclipse and Eclipse Spyder: The Attainable Exotics
Mitsubishi turned its iconic Eclipse sport coupe into a high-performance GT with the introduction of the fourth-generation model for 2006. For 2007, the new Eclipse Spyder bolsters this popular model's position as the "attainable exotic."
The Spyder's automatic cloth top folds completely out of sight under a flush-fitting powered tonneau cover in about 19 seconds. The top's advanced multi-layer construction provides a full head liner and glass rear widow for the quiet, snug interior feeling of a coupe when it is raised.
Eclipse coupe and Spyder are offered in two trim and performance levels: the GS is powered by a 162-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine teamed to a five-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic. The GT's 3.8-liter V-6 produces 263 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. peak torque and is teamed with a standard six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic transmission. In the Eclipse GT Spyder, the V-6 has slightly lower power ratings due to exhaust system differences (260 hp and 258 lb.ft. peak torque).
Both Eclipse engines employ the Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) system to help optimize efficiency and power across a broad engine speed range. Both Eclipse automatic transmissions feature Sportronic(TM) shifters to allow manual gearshift control. The Eclipse GT can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about seven seconds. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard on all models, with anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), plus larger, ventilated rear discs on the GT.
Both Eclipse models are equipped with standard 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels with 225/50R17 V-rated tires. The optional GT Premium Performance Package adds 18-inch, seven-spoke aluminum wheels and 235/45R18 V-rated tires.
Eclipse combines exotic-looking interior design with long-distance comfort and safety, including standard advanced dual-stage front air bags, seat-mounted side air bags and front seat curtain side air bags. For the Spyder, the customer can choose from three available interior color schemes: Techno-Sport (charcoal), Hi-Q Sport (medium gray) and Avante Garde (terra cotta).
The Spyder models feature as standard the 650-watt Rockford-Fosgate Premium Audio system with PUNCH(R) control and a six-disc, in-dash CD changer that can play MP3 CDs. This system is optional for the Eclipse coupes. The Spyder's system provides unique automatic sound equalization for top-up or top-down driving, and its eight-inch subwoofer has been integrated into the rear seat area as a design element.
New for 2007, the Eclipse GT coupe offers an optional Sun and Sound Package, which bundles a power sunroof with the potent Rockford-Fosgate Premium Audio system, steering wheel audio controls, and auto-dimming rear-view mirror. These features are also still included in the more comprehensive Premium Sport Package. All Eclipse models gain a new hood switch for the standard anti-theft system.
Galant Ralliart Spearheads Revised Mid-Size Sedan Line
Mitsubishi has introduced the new high-performance Galant Ralliart model to lead the restyled and enhanced Galant mid-size sedan line for 2007. Galant Ralliart is powered by a 258-hp 3.8-liter V-6 engine and equipped with a five-speed Sportronic(R) automatic transmission, sport suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels and exclusive exterior styling and interior features.
Galant Ralliart treats occupants with perforated leather-trimmed seating surfaces, heated front seats, automatic climate control, a power glass sunroof and Homelink(TM) transmitter with auto dimming rear view mirror. Its standard 360-watt Rockford Acoustic Design(TM) premium audio system includes SIRIUS(TM) Satellite Radio with a six-month pre-paid subscription.
All Galant models for 2007 add standard side curtain air bags to their comprehensive safety package, which also includes advanced front air bags with occupant sensors and front seat-mounted side-impact air bags. The Galant achieved across-the-board five-star ratings in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) offset frontal and side impact crash tests.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded Galant its highest ranking - "Good" overall - in its frontal offset and side impact crash tests.
The revised styling of all 2007 Galant models is highlighted by a sophisticated new front-end treatment. Interior design and materials have been enhanced, and chassis revisions yield a more comfortable ride and a more engaging driving experience. A new DVD navigation system with seven-inch touch screen is available on the Galant Ralliart and GTS models.
Galant offers three other trim levels: the DE and ES models are powered by a MIVEC-enhanced 160-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine teamed to a four-speed automatic transmission with Sportronic. The GTS steps up to a 230-hp 3.8-liter V-6 with the five-speed Sportronic transmission. New for 2007, customers can infuse the Galant ES with some of the style and comfort of the V-6 Galant models by ordering the optional Sport Package and Premium Package.
Endeavor: New Safety Technology
The Mitsubishi Endeavor remains one of the most well rounded crossover mid-size SUVs, with standout safety and proven quality. For 2007, Mitsubishi has equipped all Endeavor models with standard rollover-sensing curtain side air bags and a tire pressure monitoring system.
In addition, all models gain the advanced Active Skid and Traction Control (ASTC) system as standard equipment.
The 2007 Endeavor's trim level offerings have been revised to offer richer content and greater value with the launch of the Special Edition (SE) model. The well-equipped Endeavor LS remains the entry model.
The new SE builds on the generous LS feature content and offers two upgrades: SE with Sunroof Package, and SE with navigation system (the first time a navigation system is available in Endeavor). Endeavor LS gains premium seat fabric, and all models feature redesigned door panels. New exterior styling refinements include color-keyed bumpers on the LS, and, on SE models, chrome grille trim, color-keyed door handles, side mirrors and rear license plate garnish.
The Endeavor achieved five-star ratings for frontal (driver) and side impact (front and rear) crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded Endeavor its highest ranking - "Good" overall - in its frontal offset crash test.
Unibody construction and four-wheel independent suspension ensure a smooth, quiet ride. The available full-time all-wheel drive system provides a 50:50 torque split between the front and rear wheels. Endeavor's 108.3-inch wheelbase contributes to a spacious rear seat area, featuring a generous 38.5 inches of legroom. With the 60/40 split rear folding seatbacks folded, Endeavor offers 76.4 cu. ft. of cargo capacity, with 40.7 cu. ft. available when all seats are up.
Endeavor's 3.8-liter V-6 engine produces 225 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 255 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 3,750 rpm. The standard four-speed automatic transmission features a Sportronic(TM) mode that allows the driver to control gear shifting manually.

At fall launch, all 2007 Raider models are powered by a standard 210-hp 3.7-liter SOHC V-6 engine that produces 235 lb.-ft. of peak torque. The engine is teamed to a standard six-speed manual transmission in the LS Extended Cab 2WD model, and a four-speed automatic transmission in all others. The V-8 models will be available in February.
All Raider Double Cab 4WD models get a new NV244 Gen II transfer case for 2007. The 2007 Raider DuroCross features new satin interior finishes and new Rugged Trail tires.
