CYPRESS, Calif. – The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross enters 2019 building on the heritage of Mitsubishi's sporty past, blending sharp coupe looks and dynamic crossover utility vehicle (CUV) mobility into one package. After an exciting launch into the lineup in 2018, the Eclipse Cross is enhanced for 2019 with a reshuffling of trim level equipment for enhanced value and practicality in a stylish CUV package.
Coupe-Like Styling in a CUV Package
From launch, the Eclipse Cross cut a striking figure on the road with signature Mitsubishi styling, technology and driving confidence. The nimble-yet-capable CUV stands out from the crowd thanks to its distinctive coupe-like form, wedge-shaped profile, strong beltline and sculpted character line. Other stimulating design cues include a steeply forward-raked rear window, angular rear gate, short overhang, as well as beefy fenders that project athleticism.
The front of the Eclipse Cross features Mitsubishi's signature DYNAMIC SHIELD design. The concept is a protective shield shape visually formed by the black radiator grille surrounded by angular forms in contrasting materials.
The dynamic rear design is distinguished by high-mounted, stretched rear lamps and a horizontal division across the forward-raked rear window. When illuminated, the tubular LED lights and the central hi-mount stop light form a single bar of light running across the tail, accentuating Eclipse Cross' broad and stable appearance from the rear.
A Connected and Driver-Oriented Cockpit
The cockpit-style interior of the Eclipse Cross wraps around the driver for a sporty, engaging feel. Everywhere the driver looks and everything they touch is of the utmost quality with no compromise on the detail. High-grade interior materials are accented by piano-black surfaces and luminous silver accents, which are now standard on all trim levels.
Eclipse Cross boasts an available high-resolution 7-inch touchscreen monitor, standard on LE trims and above, to control the audio system and other functions. Mounted atop the dash, this system includes optional smartphone connectivity in the form of Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, which can control apps via voice recognition through Google Assistant or Siri. The smartphone link display can also be controlled with a touchpad controller, which allows for tap/swipe operation while underway.
Eclipse Cross also offers a full-color Head-Up Display (HUD) on the SEL trim that provides the driver with real-time vehicle information The system consists of a full color LCD display that is mounted just beyond the steering wheel and close to the driver's line of sight, allowing easier driving by minimizing the changes in focal distance and direction. The HUD provides driving information and critical safety messages, such as: speed, cruise control setting, Forward Collision Mitigation warnings, Lane Departure Warnings and paddle-shift gear position. The system is standard on SEL models. The display includes brightness and height adjustment control and an up/down switch that allows the driver to lower the display into the dash if desired.
In the back of the Eclipse Cross, heated rear seats are available as part of the SEL Touring Package. Both the left and right rear seats can be heated with the push of a switch mounted on the back of the floor console. The rear seats also offer multiple seating adjustments to accommodate passengers and/or cargo. The rear seat back angle has nine reclining positions and can slide fore and aft nearly eight inches to strike the ideal balance between passenger space and cargo capacity.
The Eclipse Cross with SEL Touring Package also features a panoramic dual-pane sunroof with a large power front glass panel with tilt and slide capability, which can open up to 17 inches.
Responsive and Efficient Driving with a 1.5-Liter Turbo Engine
Under the hood, the Eclipse Cross comes standard with a 1.5-liter direct-injection turbo engine that offers a compelling combination of drivability, performance and efficiency. This turbo technology provides both strong torque and better fuel efficiency with 152 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 184 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm. The powerplant features advanced technology such as sodium filled exhaust valves to provide the best blend of fun-to-drive performance and efficiency in the Mitsubishi lineup.
MITSUBISHI CONNECT
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is the first, and only, vehicle featuring the MITSUBISHI CONNECT interface in the U.S. The system made its global debut in the Eclipse Cross when the CUV launched in North America for the 2018 model year. MITSUBISHI CONNECT comes standard with 24-month trial subscription.
The system provides vehicle owners with a safe, secure and personalized driving experience powered by a subscription-based 4G LTE service. The service provides two service bundles, Safeguard and Remote, which can be accessed through the My MITSUBISHI CONNECT mobile app or through the Mitsubishi vehicle owners' portal. The Safeguard services package within MITSUBISHI CONNECT includes Automatic Collision Notification, SOS Emergency Assistance, Information Assistance, Roadside Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Alarm Notification and Mileage Tracker. The Remote services package include Remote Climate Control, Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Remote Horn, Remote Lights, Car Finder, Vehicle Settings, and Parental Controls (Geo Fence, Speed Alert and Curfew Alert).
Super All-Wheel Control for Unmatched Handling
Mitsubishi is committed to providing advanced all-wheel control technology that raises the bar on safety and driving pleasure, which is why the Eclipse Cross is available with Mitsubishi's proprietary, advanced S-AWC (Super All-Wheel Control) system. The system enhances both straight-line stability and cornering performance by precisely controlling the torque supplied to each of the four wheels.
The S-AWC system is an integration of the vehicle dynamics control systems monitoring each component of the 4WD system. Active Stability Control (ASC), Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), and Active Yaw Control (AYC) all work together to distribute torque to the rear wheels and between right and left wheels by selectively applying additional braking force and adjustments to the electronically controlled 4WD system. Based on the same principles as the S-AWC systems in the Outlander and Outlander PHEV, the system builds upon Mitsubishi's legacy of all-wheel control technology.
The S-AWC also uses an advanced sensor monitoring system to detect driver intent and vehicle attitude. Sensor information is gathered from steering angle, wheel speed, engine torque, T/M gear ratio, yaw rate, longitudinal/lateral acceleration and brake pressure. Three driver-selectable modes are available (AUTO, SNOW, GRAVEL), applying condition-specific logic to enhance the S-AWC performance.
All of these components make up the S-AWC system, which is far more advanced than a traditional 4WD system. The S-AWC improves traction in all weather and road conditions, including snow, rain, ice, gravel and dust while also improving straight line stability and cornering performance.
Technology for All Around Safety
Advanced safety technology supports safer, more confident driving in all settings and conditions, day or night. From intelligent sensors that track the vehicle's surroundings and warn of danger to active driving assistance and solid passive protection, the Eclipse Cross delivers a complete portfolio of advanced safety features.
- Blind Spot Warning (BSW) with Lane Change Assist (LCA) –This available safety feature uses radar sensors in the rear bumper to detect vehicles in rear blind spots, on the right and left sides. An indicator appears in the door mirror when BSW is active and the turn signals are off. When a vehicle is detected and the turn signals are on, the indicator blinks in the door mirror on that side and an audible warning sounds.
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)– Available as an option, an indicator appears in the display when RCTA is active. If radar sensors in the rear bumper detect an approaching vehicle nearby while reverse gear is engaged, a warning message appears in the multi-information display, an audible alert sounds and an indicator blinks in both door mirrors.
- Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) – The optional FCM helps prevent a frontal collision or reduce the severity of that collision if it becomes unavoidable, detecting both vehicles and pedestrians via camera and laser radar.
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW) – The optional LDW uses an onboard camera to monitor lane position in front of the vehicle, audibly and visually alerting the driver if it detects the vehicle unintentionally leaving its lane.
- Adaptive Cruise Control System (ACC) – The available ACC maintains a selected distance between the vehicle and the car ahead via radar for greater safety and peace of mind.
- Multi-View Camera System – The views from cameras mounted on the front, rear and sides of the vehicle (including a bird's-eye view) can be displayed in various combinations to help reveal what is in blind spots and help you park.
- Automatic High Beam (AHB) – Available intelligent headlights automatically adjust between brightness levels depending on the surrounding lights.
