State of Hawai'i says "E Komo Mai" to Mitsubishi Motors' electric vehicle charging network efforts

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) and its authorized charging equipment manufacturing partners have been helping to lead the way to bolster Hawai'i's electric vehicle (EV) charging network as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed last year between the Japanese automobile manufacturer and the State of Hawai'i.

Along with invaluable aid from the State of Hawai'i, this cooperative effort is helping to establish a bright future for 100% electric-powered vehicles in America's island paradise. This is particularly true in the Hawaiian capital of Honolulu and the island of O'ahu - the archipelago's most populous location. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC), Mitsubishi Motors' parent company, has helped in spreading EVs and EV infrastructure in natural tourist destinations in Japan, in order to provide a quiet, pleasing, and eco-friendly time - which has had positive effects in attracting tourists to those locations. Mitsubishi Motors hopes the same can be accomplished in Hawaii, aiding the tourism industry while helping to preserve Hawaii's spectacular natural surroundings.

AeroVironment EV Charging Network
In February 2012, Mitsubishi Motors announced that it had selected AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), an authority in EV infrastructure solutions, as an authorized and approved nationwide supplier of EV home charging systems, on-site installation services and support for the all-new 100% electric-powered 2012 Mitsubishi i, providing drivers safe and reliable indoor/outdoor home charging and the ability to start the day fully charged.

Hawaii's plan for an extended EV charging infrastructure not only provides easy access to charging stations with over 200 level 2 charging stations installed, but made even more attractive to Mitsubishi i drivers who will have access to newly added AeroVironment DC fast charging stations, enabling drivers to charge their EVs in less than 30 minutes. Made possible through support from the state's "Electric Vehicle (EV) Ready" EV Grant Program the AeroVironment fast charging stations will be located in convenient locations on the islands of O'ahu, Maui and Kaui'i.

"Mitsubishi Motors is delighted that the State of Hawai'i and AeroVironment are making commitments to install a public EV charging network in Hawaii that will give 2012 Mitsubishi i owners more options to charge their EVs away from home, providing additional confidence and convenience to roam around the islands," said Yoichi Yokozawa, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA).

Eaton EV Charging Network
MMNA and diversified power management solutions company, Eaton Corporation is working diligently to install ultra-quick DC EV charging stations on O'ahu.

Eaton will soon have an ultra-fast DC EV quick charger at Ko Olina Resort - one of the premier vacation destinations in Hawaii. Sitting on the western side of the island of O'ahu approximately a 30-minute drive from Honolulu, Ko Olina is an expansive oceanfront resort that includes a world-class marina, award-winning golf course, Marriott hotel and timeshare properties, and Disney's new Aulani resort.

The Eaton DC Quick Charger can replenish an empty 2012 Mitsubishi i main lithium-ion battery pack to 80% full in under 30 minutes.

The Eaton DC EV quick chargers at Ko Olina will be free-to-use by anyone with an EV equipped with the CHAdeMO-compliant quick-charging port at this busy tourist destination as soon as it is up and running, making EV recharging convenient for the citizens of Hawaii and vacationing visitors.

The Eaton DC quick charger will be installed by Volta Industries, the official distributor/installer of Eaton EV chargers in Hawaii.

Volta Industries has recently unveiled a plan to develop a Volta Hawaii network, a local business-sponsored, free-to-use EV charging network that includes an initial rollout of four Eaton Level 2 EV charging stations at popular shopping destinations Pearlridge Mall (located approximately 10 miles west of downtown Honolulu) and Kahala Mall (approximately 5 miles east of downtown Honolulu). The company plans on installing several dozen free-to-use Eaton Level 2 EV charging stations across the island of Oahu over the next year.

Safe and Convenient Charging Network for the 2012 Mitsubishi i
The deployment of this safe, convenient and proven EV charging network of Level 2 and Level 3 quick chargers manufactured by Eaton Corporation and AeroVironment is helping to make 100% electric-powered vehicles like the 2012 Mitsubishi i an ideal choice for affordable and sustainable transportation in Hawaii. "Many of the goals outlined in the memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreement signed by our company and the State of Hawai'i to help foster EV acceptance and the deployment of a safe and convenient EV charging network are quickly becoming a reality." said Yoichi Yokozawa, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.

Furthermore, this is just the beginning as additional quick chargers are likely to be added in the coming years, expanding the EV charging network even more.
