  • The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid adds Platinum Edition offering Black Diamond exterior paint with Alloy Silver roof and light gray interior combination

Long the world's best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)2, the 2024 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid combines everything that has made the gasoline-powered Outlander so successful: bold styling, advanced vehicle architecture, award-winning4 interior, seven-passenger convenience, and legendary Mitsubishi SUV capability. To this, the plug-in hybrid model adds a version of Mitsubishi Motors' plug-in hybrid drivetrain boasting more power and torque, greater all-electric range, and the latest and most sophisticated version of Mitsubishi's confidence-inspiring Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC)1 all-wheel drive system.

From the entry-level 2024 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid ES to the range-topping Platinum Edition, Mitsubishi's flagship model is the best-equipped, most connected vehicle the brand has ever sold in the U.S. Additionally, all trim levels offer 38 miles of all-electric range, up to 420 miles of overall range4, and SEL and above models are the only mass-market plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with DC fast-charging capability on the CHAdeMo system, capable of filling the 20kWh battery pack to 80% capacity in just 38 minutes.

Mitsubishi Motors believes the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid is the perfect stepping-stone from today's internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to tomorrow's full battery-electric vehicles. Offering the range and ease of refueling of a conventional gasoline-fueled vehicle, and the clean and quiet motoring offered by an electric vehicle, the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid answers all the questions today's motorists have about tomorrow's technologies.

The 2024 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid also features Mitsubishi's new "Innovative Pedal" technology15, which allows near-one-pedal acceleration and deceleration, similar to full-battery electric vehicles. Unlike other applications, however, Mitsubishi engineers wanted to keep a similar feel to conventional gasoline vehicles' low-speed operation. Lifting off the brake pedal allows the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid to "creep" forward for parking and other maneuvers, as is common in any automatic transmission-equipped vehicle.

Bold Exterior and Refined, High-end Interior

The Outlander was crafted under a design theme which translates to "authentic and majestic". This design ethos is reflected in the bold proportions, muscular fenders, and chiseled lines of the latest iteration of Mitsubishi's "Dynamic Shield" grille. 18-inch alloy wheels are fitted to entry-level ES models, 20-inch wheels are fitted to all other trims and add a robust presence that emphasizes strength and security.

Inside, Outlander Plug-in Hybrid places a premium on comfort and convenience with class-above materials across the range. While both the ICE and Plug-in Hybrid models of the Outlander are equipped with a third-row seat as standard equipment, the design differs. The rear-most seat is a 50/50 split in the ICE model, however, the Plug-in Hybrid debuts a new design that folds the one-piece seatback forwards onto the cushion, then the whole assembly recesses into a deep well in the floor. All operation is light and simple and can be performed with only one hand. Mitsubishi engineers and designers were able to develop the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid from the outset to be a three-row vehicle, which is what allowed the vehicle to be one of the only mass-market Plug-in Hybrid SUVs to offer seating for seven passengers.

New for 2024, Outlander Plug-in Hybrid introduces a Platinum Edition trim for drivers to further personalize their electrified Outlander. Platinum Edition adds a Black Diamond paint scheme to the exterior in combination with an Alloy Silver roof. Inside, light gray leather adorns the cabin for a bright, upscale look and feel to match the exterior.

Technology and Connectivity

Offering more technology and connectivity than any previous Mitsubishi model, the 2024 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid features a standard 12.3-inch, full-color LCD digital driver display.

All 2024 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid vehicles come with Apple CarPlay®6 (wireless on SE and above) and Android AutoTM5 (wired) integration as standard. A nine-inch center touchscreen is also available, which includes a built-in navigation system, SiriusXM® compatibility, wireless smartphone charging, Mitsubishi Connect with Safeguard and Remote Services, and a 24-month free trial. Mitsubishi Connect is also available on models with the standard eight-inch center touchscreen. A nine-speaker BOSE®8 audio system is optional on select trims. Additionally, a 10.8-inch full-color head-up display (HUD) is available on SE with Tech Package and SEL with Touring Package.

Capability and Confidence

The 2024 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid rides on a cutting-edge platform developed through its partnership with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The modern vehicle architecture offers a solid foundation for a more confident and comfortable driving experience. With hot-stamped, ultra-high tensile-strength steel used in key areas, torsional rigidity is increased by 33% over the previous-generation Outlander.

All models are equipped as standard with a new generation of the brand's signature Super All-wheel Control (S-AWC)1 all-wheel drive system, allowing for greater vehicle control and increased driver confidence. The twin-motor system, utilizing the gasoline engine and front motor to drive the front wheels, and a stand-alone rear-mounted motor to drive the rear axle, boasts a combined 248-horsepower and 332 lb./ft of torque and achieves a 64 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent) rating4. Part of the magic of the S-AWC system is that the rear electric motor is larger than the front, allowing for a confident feel for the driver.

Standard and Available Safety and ADAS Features Across the Lineup

As the best-equipped Mitsubishi ever sold in the U.S., the Outlander family offers an impressive array of standard and available advanced driver assistance systems16 to increase driver confidence, convenience, and safety.

MI-PILOT Assist is Mitsubishi's advanced driver assistance system8 integrating Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), and Traffic Sign Recognition to maintain appropriate speed, following distance, and keep the vehicle centered in the lane.8

Depending on trim level, Outlander Plug-in Hybrid also offers: Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM)8, Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), Active Blind Spot Assist (ABSA), Blind Spot Warning (BSW)9, Lane Change Assist (LCA), Lane Departure Warning and Prevention (LDW & LDP)10, Driver Attention Alert11, Rear Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Automatic High Beam (AHB), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) and a Multiview Camera system.12

Mitsubishi Motors Confidence

Every 2024 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid offers what the brand calls Mitsubishi Motors Confidence: one of the industry's leading warranties including a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, five-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, seven-year/100,000-mile anti-corrosion/perforation limited warranty, two-year/30,000-mile limited maintenance program, and five-year/unlimited-mile roadside assistance program.13, 14
